9 Top Furniture Design Trends 2022 From Milan’s Salone del Mobile

2 min read

Salone del Mobile

Salone del Mobile, Milan’s annual furniture fair, returned stronger than ever this year to celebrate its 60th anniversary. In honor of the festivities, the House Beautiful shopping team hit up the design extravaganza to report all the top furniture trends. Since many brands that show at Salone only sell custom pieces or furniture for trade, we took the liberty of rounding up must-have styles you can actually snag for your space.

Why will purchasing these essentials level up your place? They’re all designer-approved and most definitely ahead of the curve, as so much of what shows at Salone is new to the market. Kitchens and bathrooms were the spotlight exhibits, so expect a number of those recommendations alongside all things outdoor (now that summer’s basically here) and much more. For anyone looking for the ultimate inspiration, you’ve come to the right place.

Chartreuse Seats

Bouie Square Arm Sofa

Even though The Home Edit‘s Joanna Teplin has made it clear in past episodes that she’s not a fan of chartreuse, the design scene in Milan was jam-packed with it. There were tufted sofas and accent chairs reminiscent of the yellow-green French liquor everywhere. Take it as your sign to switch up your seating at home!

2

Glass Outdoor Furniture

In the market for new patio furniture? Consider glass outdoor fiurniture because the material is made to last. “Take car windows, for instance, they’re glass and can weather the elements,” Vetro Giardini‘s Export Director Daniela Pedtrotti told House Beautiful at Salone. “We were one of the first to create glass outdoor sets and our iconic designs are now in the Italian Republic Palace.”

Want to go all out with the same glass set the President of Italy has? These customizable silhouettes can be ordered online at Artemest—a digital marketplace featuring exceptional handmade goods via Italian artisans from Milan to the Amalfi Coast.

Bamboo Patio Sets

During a quick break at Fendi Casa, located at the heart of Milan’s city center, it was made clear bamboo outdoor furniture is also on the rise. Keep that in mind when putting together a patio setup this season.

Convertible Chairs

Convertible furniture has come a long way from the reclining sofas your grandparents love. Take Blå Station‘s impressive Innovation C chair, which turned 20 at Salone—it’s a desk and a side table and a chair all in one.

This piece first came to life when Swedish furniture designer Fredrik Mattson noticed how uncomfortable people were while working on their laptops at the airport. While it’s not available to the masses at the moment, you can find plenty of convertible furniture all over the internet.

5

Black Appliances

There’s no reason you have to stick with the white or stainless steel kitchen appliances that came with your home. For a bolder, more dramatic look, go with a black appliance like those Bosch displayed its latest line.

6

Hanging Floral Arrangements

Floral arrangements filled Milan’s FieraMilano complex, but you had to look up to catch the best ones. Next time you grab dried or faux flowers, get a bunch, turn them upside down, and hang them from the ceiling. Hanging flower arrangements are cropping up in all new clever shapes and sizes.

7

Side Table Storage

We’re taking cues from the debut of “A Portrait of Comfort,” a cozy exhibition courtesy of Loro Piana Interiors and French designer Raphael Navot, and snagging stools that convert to side tables for our own small spaces. The luxury brand showed off their own design at Salone, which has a top that can also be used as a tray. It’s another reminder that multi-purpose furniture is the way to go.

8

Aromatherapy Shower Heads

Bathrooms were a big focus at Salone, and the rain shower heads selection was endless. Adding one is an easy and practical way to create spa vibes at home, so the hype around it checks out.

Instead of opting for a standard pick, choose a rain shower with aromatherapy. You’ll feel like you’re at a resort every day!

9

Infinity Style Bathtubs

Back To Wall Freestanding Tub

Bringing the outside in was a common theme at the fair, and Kohler led the charge with its smart infinity bathtub—a freestanding model with a slatted wood base, so the water inside can overflow over the edges of the tub, creating a soothing sound. It’s very much worth the $16,000 price tag, but if such a splurge is not in your budget place any other freestanding tub next to a large window for seriously relaxing vibes.
